We are excited to announce the Spring 2026 Nancy Peatman CFI (Virtual):
Title: The Clinician’s Guide to AI: Practical Application in Physical Therapy and Education
Speakers: Chris Hoekstra, PT, DPT, PhD, Melissa Boutagy, PT, DPT, OCS, Karen Blood, PT, DPT, DHSc, Kelly Brown, PT, DPT, OCS
Learning objectives:
- Understand the basics of what artificial intelligence and machine learning is and how they differ
- Appreciate some of the business and clinical risks associated with the use of tech-augmented decision making
- Understand facilitators and barriers to effective use of technology in clinical practice
- Recognize privacy risks related to faculty intellectual property, educational materials, and clinical data when using generative AI tools
- Connect these privacy and ethical issues to similar dilemmas students may encounter during clinical care involving documentation
- Design prompts or learning activities that promote clinical reasoning while leveraging AI as a thinking partner
- Appreciate a practical framework for vetting AI technology in healthcare
- Reframe AI as a tool that strengthens—not replaces—clinical judgment, learning, and critical thinking
- Guide organizations and educators in making responsible AI adoption and policy decisions
